Racing on hold at The Creek

Inline with today’s announcement from Racing Queensland, all harness racing meetings programmed at Albion Park will not proceed until further notice.

With flood waters still inundating parts of the venue, the Albion Park facilities have yet to be fully assessed, making it impossible to predict a date for the return of racing at The Creek.

Albion Park Harness Racing Club Chairman Brad Steele said today’s announcement was important to provide participants with clarity in the short-term.

“It has been a tough few days for all those involved with the club and our thoughts in particular go out to the industry participants impacted by this major weather event,” he said.

“We know that many have had major damage to their own training tracks, stables and fencing which is devastating.

“For us, the temporary closure of The Creek affects a huge volume of people – from our trainers, drivers and their support teams, through to our dedicated employees.

“Our number one priority is to get racing back on track at The Creek and planning is already underway with all stakeholders.

“In fact, work has already begun today on the track to start this process.

“In the short-term, Racing Queensland has confirmed the majority of harness meetings will be moved to Redcliffe, with Marburg also set to host additional meetings.

“We welcome this move to keep our industry going and look forward to welcoming our participants back to The Creek as soon as safe and practical.”

Immediate race meetings for Friday 4th, Saturday 5th & Tuesday 8th March will be held at Redcliffe Harness Racing Club.

Further updates for future meetings will be posted on the Racing Queensland website and through industry channels.
