Help Our Harness Family

Helping out a fellow member of the harness racing family is something that those involved in our great sport often step up and do without being asked.

Four of our own currently need some support and the team from Embracing Pacing have established a Go Fund Me Site to help contribute to the challenges that these four will face.

Jack Butler, Greg Elkins, Dudley Warburton and Dan Costello are all facing their own health concerns and along with their families, have many hurdles to negotiate.

Any monies received from this campaign will be distributed by Embracing Pacing, equally to the four men.

Dan Costello is our on-course photographer at The Creek, is a winner of the Harness Racing Australia Joseph Coulter Media Award (Photography) and has previously held many different titles within the industry including as the President of BOTRA.

Late in 2023, Dan was diagnosed with aggressive bladder cancer that unfortunately has spread to the liver that has seen Dan commence chemotherapy with immunotherapy to follow.

Greg Elkins, a trainer and driver was kicked by a horse in February and was rushed to the Princess Alexandra hospital where he has remained since.

Place in an induced coma, Greg has suffered numerous blood clots and internal bleeds, and has faced countless surgeries as the medical team do everything possible to improve his situation.

The 2022 Queensland Trainer of the Year, Jack Butler faces a battle with cancer following a diagnosis of Stage 1 pancreatic cancer.

Jack will have 6 cycles of intense chemotherapy which is administered fortnightly over 3 days, which will then be followed by surgery to remove the tumour, before undergoing another and 6 cycles chemotherapy following surgery.

Trainer Dudley Warburton sought medical treatment in January after a bout of tiredness and weight loss earlier this year.

Following testing and biopsies, Dudley was diagnosed with T-Cell lymphoma, and he has recently begun treatment.
