Ben Doing What He Loves

In early 2022, The Creek took on a new employee to join the track staff team, working on race days to ensure the 150-plus race meetings held at our venue run safely and smoothly.

Recently turned 18, Ben Jeffrey has been a valuable team member at The Creek in that time and soon after joining the team, enrolled in a Certificate II in Racing Industry to complement his role.

The course is facilitated by Racing Queensland who are the recognised RTO and Ben had to successfully complete 14 subjects within the course requirements.

Last week, industry educator Jeff McKay came to The Creek to present Ben with his Certificate following the successful completion of the course.

Presenting the Certificate in front of colleagues and family, Jeff was glowing in his praise of Ben.

“He couldn’t have done it without Tony Turpin and everyone else here at Albion Park,” McKay said when presenting the certificate.

“Every time I’m here, I can see he’s treated like a god almost and he’s part of the family.

“I’m actually quite proud of him, I was concerned that he would get through, but he’s proven to me he could” he said.

Track manager at The Creek, Tony Turpin continues to be impressed by the enthusiasm, willingness to learn and also the dedication that Ben displays.

“We’re super proud of him, we throw him curve balls every now and again, he says he can’t do it, but has a crack and he ends up doing it” Turpin said.

With no two race days ever the same, Ben takes on a wide range of tasks- including-ensuring the GPS trackers from the saddlecloths are appropriately assigned, keeping the track entry safe for horse movements and will also happily jump in any winning photos when needed!

Now that his studies are completed, Ben is excited to continue doing what he loves, and here at The Creek, we are excited to see Ben flourish.
