From the Callers Box – April 2025

The new official track record at the famed Breakfast Creek 1000m oval, Albion Park belongs to the best pacer in the country, Leap To Fame.

And it sits alongside his records at 2138m, 2680m and even the stand start 2647m.

Keeping in mind, he also has records at Redcliffe Newcastle and Cranbourne.

He’s truly remarkable.

Earlier this year, he was an inducted into the Queensland Harness Hall of Fame at the annual Awards ceremony alongside his trainer/driver Grant Dixon.

A fitting result.

However, some questioned why Leap To Fame was inducted while still competing at the highest level and at the peak of his powers.

And to be fair, it is a very unusual occurrence.

But this is a very unusual equine star!

His power, speed, will to win and steely determination sits him above most others.

Ultimately, you can’t take away or diminish what he’s already achieved and anything he wins in the future only adds to his almighty ‘cv’ and reputation.

But again, we can do more as an industry to promote this pacing powerhouse.

With the 2025 Inter Dominion at Albion Park looming, the ‘PR’ and marketing departments at Racing Queensland and the host club should be working overtime to make sure Leap To Fame is the face of the Constellations carnival.

While he could easily carry this role entirely on his own shoulders, having the likes of Swayzee and reigning champion Don Hugo as trusty sidekicks should make it a slam dunk for officials.

When Leap To Fame scored in the 2023 Inter Dominion Grand Final here at Albion Park, the famed Breakfast Creek oval was rocking, and deservedly so given his hometown links.

So, given what he’s achieved since and the support cast of Swayzee and Don Hugo really upping their games, this should be one heck of a series coming our way.

All the ingredients are in place.

Let’s make the 2025 series the very best in modern times.

And the 2025 Grand Final will be staged over the marathon distance of 3157m, if Leap To Fame proves triumphant, it’ll be another record.

Let’s go Larry!

Until next time.
