When its all said and done, a serious question needs to be asked. How do we best celebrate the deeds of Leap To Fame?

Following his epic victory in yet another Miracle Mile at Menangle last month, the debate has raged ever since – Is he the GOAT of our sport? It’s a difficult debate for many reasons – what’s the framework to work within? What’s considered to be the modern era? How do you accurately compare different eras? Is it prizemoney won? Time? Tally of Group 1 victories recorded? The list goes on and on.

The argument is spurious until he’s finally retired. Bottom line, he’s right in the conversation! But. When the curtain is drawn on this generational talent, how do we best pay homage to him? The only Grand Circuit race staged in Queensland is the Blacks A Fake, named in honour of the four times Inter Dominion champion and former leading prizemoney earner (until Leap To Fame bettered it). That race is firmly entrenched in the fabric of the state – so, it must remain.

Do we need to create a brand-new race named after Leap To Fame? If so, is it for 3yo’s, 4yo’s or Open class performers? Maybe a life-sized bronze statue can be built and placed alongside the presentation dais, fitting directly between the track and the grandstand so everyone can appreciate his greatness…. similar to Makybe Diva at Flemington.

The road that runs parallel to Albion Park is Yulestar Street, named after the 2001 Inter Dominion winner.

Do we need a Leap To Fame Lane?

With redevelopment plans in waiting for Albion Park, will the Grandstand carry his name or the stabling block?

Does the Horse of the Year award require a name change?

Or will a new award be created? The Leap To Fame award recognizing outstanding service to the industry?

And who makes the call on how we best celebrate this champion?

Is it up to connections? The governing body (RQ)? The club (APHRC)?

Or is it up to the industry?

Lots of questions need to be asked. And serious answers are required. Time is ticking.
