From the Callers Box – May 2024

With the 2024 Constellations less than two months away, things are starting to take shape.

Both on and off track.

The equine stars are being confirmed and prepped for the plethora of features while commercial planning is well advanced.

But I have a thought.

Maybe a missing piece? Maybe not.

The major partner of the Albion Park Harness Racing Club is betting giant Ladbrokes, their red and white livery is emblazoned everywhere across the track.

So, with that said, has a ‘Monster Punters Challenge’ throughout the three major nights of the Constellations been tabled or discussed?

Let’s give the punters and fans alike, what they want…the chance to win some serious cash!

With all the stars, both human and equine, on display, why won’t a Punters Challenge be the missing piece of the puzzle?

Could this happen?

Is there enough time?

The benefits are obvious for the major parties involved – sponsor, club, governing body and most importantly, the punters.

As we know, turnover is King!

But think about it, with so many great races being staged, isn’t this the ideal time to implement a massive Punters Challenge.

Ladbrokes = new clients & brand exposure

APHRC = people power, new faces trackside, new members & new sponsors

RQ = turnover increase

Punters = prize winners

Just imagine, if a $50k prize pool is up for grabs, punters must be on course throughout the carnival and weekly updates via the club’s social platforms or even the Courier Mail given that Ladbrokes sponsors the racing section of the newspaper.

The best punters (big or small) put their skills to the test as the best horses, trainers, and drivers chase Gr.1 glory.

Surely, this has merit.

Surely, it’s been discussed.

All the ingredients are there, so, let’s get cookin!

Until next time.
