From the Callers Box – May 2025

Nominations have been received for ID25 – and numbers across both gaits, pacing and trotting, are understandably strong.
Given the prizemoney levels ($1 million for pacers & $500,000 for trotters) on offer, officials are thrilled. The biggest names in both divisions are there, local hero Leap To Fame in the pacing ranks and unbeaten Victorian Keayang Zahara for the trotters. If both start in the July series, that’s a promoter’s dream.
The 2025 series is not the normal format for an Inter Dominion series, this year, two heats and a final. And no 1660m heats.
Here’s another twist, could the winner of the Rising Sun accept the challenge and tackle the pacing Grand Final?
The Grand Finals will be staged over the marathon distance of 3157m. It promises to be a great test for all competing.
The notable omission is dual New Zealand Cup winner Swayzee while recent Nullarbor winner Mister Smartee is also bypassing the series.
From across the ditch, three pacers were amongst nominations which is pleasing.
The last time the Inter Dominion was staged at Albion Park, it was only eighteen months ago when Leap To Fame and Just Believe proved triumphant. Both finals on that warm summer’s night in 2023, were stacked with locally prepared runners, can they stand tall again this year?
Here’s hoping!
The countdown is well and truly underway and July 19 will be here in a blink of an eye.
But first, there’s plenty to play out before now and then.
Until next time.
