Sunshine Stars Sale Classics take centre stage

All eyes will turn to the skies looking for blue, in the hope of favourable weather and racing conditions for the rescheduled races following last week’s washout.

The Ladbrokes Nutrien Equine Sunshine Stars Classics have been moved to this Saturday night at The Creek where the graduates of the inaugural sale will chase feature race glory.

Finals of $125,000 will be held for the two-year-olds in each sex of the pacers, $25,000 finals for each sex of the trotters and a $50,000 complementary race for horses that sold or were passed in with a sale reserve of $25,000 or less.

The star of the show looks to be Cool And Classy, the Grant Dixon trained filly already a Group 1 winner this season, boasting a record of six wins from her seven starts.

A non-sale entry for her owners and breeders- Solid Earth Pty Ltd- the daughter of Captaintreacherous suffered her only defeat when finishing an eye-catching fourth behind Fate Awaits in the Ladbrokes Protostar during the Constellations Carnival.

Set to start from barrier six, Cool And Classy appears to have a mortgage on the race and extend her season beyond $200,000 in earnings.

If she is to face any competition, the two main dangers appear to be her stablemate, Ruby Rules and the Ron Sallis trained Seaside Glory.

Ruby Rules has drawn favourably in gate one and has recorded a pair of impressive victories in her four career starts, while Seaside Glory has been stung with the outside of the front line.

Stay Foolish will likely run favourite in the colts and geldings division with Isobel Ross flying in to take the drive following a training accident suffered by Amanda Turnbull earlier this week.

In an ironic twist, had last week’s Finals progressed, Amanda would have returned South soon after.

Ross will now reunite with Stay Foolish, a gelding she has driven twice, recording victories on both occasions and now secures the chance to claim the biggest win of her career at ‘The Creek’ in a bittersweet twist.

Stay Foolish will appreciate moving to the front line after starting from outside the second row in the preview where he was attacking the line strongly in the closing stages.

Dangers in the race will be the preview winner, Toro Loco, for Ben Battle and Nathan Dawson, which has drawn the same barrier as his last start preview victory where he was saved for one run.

Toro Loco following the preview win

My Ultimate Felix draws well in gate one and should take further improvement from his third in the preview where he was resuming from a spell for trainer Shane Graham.

The Dixon stable have four runners in the rich final, however their best credentialed runner- Happy As Can Be- has drawn poorly and will need to overcome the outside front line to score.
